Perspective
Finding approval, praise and unconditional love from others while living in the world can be a difficult task for today's woman. At every turn comes pride in the form of fear, anger, contention and offense. Our quick and often times incorrect judgments of self and others cause us to be our own worst enemies. Love is an innate characteristic given to women by our Father in Heaven. When we pollute the powerful potential for love with our pettiness and our fears, disease then replaces emotional health, and despondency replaces peace. A good relationship is not one in which perfection reigns; rather, it is one in which a healthy perspective simply overlooks the faults of others. Perfect love is also knowing that there are some things you cannot change. We must accept others unconditionally as they are. We must accept the fact that others cannot satisfy all of our needs, wants and desires. People can only be what they are while yet living in this imperfect world. As women of virtue, let us be pure in our womanhood. Begin now to practice the pure love of Christ through the exercise of forgiveness, the unconditional acceptance of others, and giving without thought to what might be received in return. In the end, a women's love can be one eternal round. When we love the Lord, we can begin to love each other, and when we love eath other, we finally learn how to love ourselves. (Patricia T. Holland, "The Fruits of Peace", Ensign, June 1984, 50)
